Beginning of a Blue Grannie

I think this time I am going to use only one shade of blue and leave out the accent color - just one big blue grannie.

Fall Decorations

Fall is right around the corner and the cool breeze is in the air! I have started decorating the new house for the Autumn with sparkly leaves as garland for the fireplace and placed two scarecrows out front by the stoop. Luis was wonderful enough to put a hook in the entryway for my new Autumn wall hanging. On our coffee table in the living room you can "buy pumpkins & squash for 25 cents". My fiance' and I spoke about going pumpkin picking in October for some big, round pumpkins for the front of the house - it's the first fall season in the new house and I am so excited to make it feel even more homey with all the sights and scents of well-loved home! I'll be sure to post some pictures in the next few days of our small, but well-intentioned decorations. .EmmyLine.

WWII Recipe Muffins

This recipe was used during the war; not many ingredients were necessary as not very many were readily available at that time. They are plain muffins, but still tasty when served warm.

Delivery ?

Yesterday I tried waiting patiently all day and upon returning home in the early evening, I was disappointed to find that the UPS deliveryman hadn't shown up for a visit at my house; as I was expecting the arrival of my birthday gift from my mother - A Kindle! I looked around the kitchen table and then the countertop where there was a small, albeit inviting pile of letters, but no brown cardboard box for me to open. I asked my faince' three additional times, "Are you sure there was no delivery today for me?" I received a negative answer each time and so resigned myself to emptying my tote bag of the day's refuse. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my fiance' turning in a small circle and then lift his shirt - there was a wonderful rectangular box with my name on the front! He was trying to catch me unawares; he acheived success! I was so happy that I just walked around the living room rattling off all the great points about my newly acquired Kindle while holding the unopend box until he asked if I would open it so we could look inside.

Needless to say I think I might be in love! My first purchase - Wuthering Heights.

Blue & White

It's complete; the baby blanket I was furiously crocheting in order to send to friends who are having a new baby boy. So, here it is!

"Everything Will Be Fine"

I have to state here that I abhor when you are just plain having a bad day and all you hear from those whom you trust enough to speak about your "bad day" with, is that "everything will be fine." It's completely understandable for someone to say this, but sometimes, just sometimes, you are having the kind of day where perhaps things are not going so great and the world is collapsing around you and what you really need to hear is a little bit of encouragementsome words of love and not such a generic answer to life's problems. I'm not saying or trying to say that things don't usually look better in tomorrows' new morning sunshine, but today is one of those days and maybe I just needed to hear something other than "everything will be fine."

Saturday Afternoon

Having finished my "work" for the day, I find myself crocheting at a supersonic speed because it seems as though all my friends and relatives are having new babies. It must be not only the beginning of "wedding season", but "new baby season" as well. It seems that I am anticipating a bunch of little girls because I am reaching over and over again for the pink and yellow wool. Although, it might just be my subconscious trying to even out the score - my armoir has a collection of powder blue and white balnkets waiting to be gifted. I have a few ideas that I might use to alter the usual Granny Square layette pattern in order to make it more interesting or I might just follow the usual pattern; we'll see. . . off I go into the world of pastel colors and baby blankets for the afternoon. I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as I finish a few more blankets.

Friday

Today was a day of thoughts and thinking; just thinking about ideas and entertaining a few musings as they roll around inside my head. One or two of them managed to find a corner and started to grow, but the growth was stunted before it seemed to blossom into much of anything. Tomorrow is another day and so the little tiny seeds of ideas will hopefully blossom into something more. . .

Thursday's Train Ride

This morning I was completely engrossed in a fantastic storyline of a book and just enjoying being able to sit in that seat and read when three unassuming people sat down around me three stops into my ride. They started up with the most distracting and loud conversation which totally distracted me from my book. I cannot fault those who would like to carry on conversations with others while riding the train, but I cannot remember the last time I was unable to even partially "tune-out" other's discussion while reading on the train. I was forced to back-track three pages and reread them which brings me to the kicker = my eyes fell upon the last two pages of the entire book just as the storyline was coming together and the train pulls into my station! I was insensed to say the very least; and all morning I was dead-set on just ducking under my desk and speed reading through the last lines; but that would just make an abortion of a beautiful tale, so I waited as patiently as I was able until I had a few free moments and it was a perfect ending.

The first of hopefully many more lines I will have to write; but this is all I have to say at this moment in time.
